Dear Yuletide Writer:
First of all, thank you for signing up! Yuletide has become a BEHEMOTH, but I appreciate that at root it's a lot of people volunteering to do something nice for another person, and that is rad.
So! I tend to be a pretty sunshine-and-rainbows person in my fiction tastes. I also primarily love stuff about ladies being awesome and being friends with each other, as you may have gathered from my fandoms and prompts.
Things I really enjoy: happy endings, romance through small gestures, domesticity, a modicum of angst if it all turns out all right, dialogue-heavy stories.
Things I would prefer not to have: endless grimdarkness, characters ending up FOREVER ALONE in a way that's devastating rather than life-affirming (see the end of Whip It for a good example of the latter), rape/noncon (except for allusions to canon instances where appropriate), major character death, extreme violence, cross-generational relationships.
Whip It (2009)
Character tags: Bliss Cavendar, Maggie Mayhem, Pash
What happens after everything? Does Bliss visit Pash in New York and decide to stay? What happens to Bliss's burgeoning roller derby career? Will the Hurl Scouts ever win the championship?
I am still mad that this movie is as underappreciated as it is! I LOVE IT. I love Bliss even though she makes stupid decisions. I love Maggie as the cool older sister archetype, and I love Pash as the smart best friend. And the ending of the film makes any number of outcomes awesome. I personally don't super ship Bliss and Maggie, since the teacher/student kink is not mine; I am fine with Bliss/Pash or just keeping it as friendship. But I want to know what Bliss DOES with her life. One cannot live on roller derby alone, not really, and while she's not going to do what her parents set up for her she's got to figure out her own path. Maybe that means living in Austin permanently. Maybe she becomes a radio DJ. Maybe she visits Pash and falls in love with New York. Maybe anything. Tell me what Bliss dreams and how she goes out and gets it.
Pitch Perfect (2012)
Character tags: Beca, Jesse, Chloe (Pitch Perfect), Fat Amy
I will read basically anything for this, not gonna lie. Beca/Chloe! Beca/Jesse! Beca/Chloe/Jesse, because threesomes solve everything! I would love to see the rest of the Bellas show up, because this is a movie primarily about lady friendship and how great it is.
Alternately: write me a story all about how amazing Fat Amy is and I will cry with joy, because she is my new hero.
This movie! It snuck up and dug its claws into my heart. Everybody is great and everybody is friends and YAY. I would like further exploration of Beca and her prickliness, because one doesn't get over coping mechanisms like hers in a day or even a semester. I think the movie did a great job of selling us on Beca and Jesse together - he is such a doofball but in a good way - but Beca and Chloe are basically hardcore flirting the entire first half of the film, so I am A-OKAY with any permutation of those pairings or potential threesome. Plotwise: forming a co-ed acapella supergroup? Summer jobs? Chloe visiting the next year after she's graduated into a cold, hard, acapella-ignorant world? ALL GOOD.
Also: Fat Amy. FAT AMY. God, she is basically the greatest and she is my new role model and I'm not even kidding. If you wrote a story about how Fat Amy is an Australian goddess who seduces everybody who crosses her path, I would love it. And as I said in the signup, I love all the Bellas and would be more than stoked to see them show up. LADIES BEING FRIENDS: my greatest weakness!
Spiritwalker Trilogy - Kate Elliott
Character tags: Catherine Hassi Barahal, Andevai Diarisso Haranwy, Beatrice Barahal
Again, pretty much anything. Fill-in fic about Bee and Cat's childhood and adolescence? The further mysteries of Cat's powers? ANDEVAI BEING HANDSOME? All good.
So it's basically my new life goal to get everyone I know to read Cold Magic. I'm not kidding, every time someone asks for book recs this is at the top of my list. It's a steampunky world that never left the ice age with trolls and people of color and CARTHAGE NEVER FELL. (I was a classics major.) It is awesome. And I love Cat, who is bad at feelings and awesome at spying and going through a special hellish sort of second puberty as she discovers her true origins. I love Andevai, the prettiest jerkface there ever was, who is secretly a TOTAL SWEETHEART under several layers of pride and arrogance and carefully constructed image. I adore Bee mostly because sister-friend-stories hit me where I live, and I love how determined she is not to be used.
So! GO NUTS, AUTHOR. I would love to see Bee and Cat running around as teenage hellions, raising a ruckus at school. I would love stuff about what Bee was doing the whole time Cat's been having adventures. Something set during the first book from Andevai's perspective? Also awesome. I'm really just spitballing here. But I would really love it if the fic includes and even expands on the worldbuilding of Elliott's story; we've seen some pieces of it but there is so much more out there, and a respectful and imaginative treatment of the setting would thrill me to bits.
Bomb Girls
Character tags: Betty McRae, Kate Andrews
Love during wartime. More dancing we didn't see during the show, Kate practicing her singing, Betty rescuing Kate successfully this time, the two of them moving into that house together.
LLLLLLLLLLLADIES. Gosh, how do I describe my love for Bomb Girls? Independence and determination and a refusal to let others tell your story. I am waiting impatiently for season 2, and in the meantime a Yuletide story would be lovely. I will read pretty much anything for these two, though I have a slight preference for future-fic where Betty and Kate make things right. But missing scenes with tension are also amazing. As with every other request, I love basically all the characters and would be thrilled for Gladys and Vera and everybody to show up, but pretty much anything would make me happy here.
