HELLO, INTERNETS. I have survived the start of the fall semester! It was touch-and-go for a while but I have not yet shoved any undergrads into traffic, so things are going well overall. And we did two enormous annual report things: terrifying because RESPONSIBILITY AAAAGH but everything seems to have gone smoothly! And I continue to have a social life, which freaks me out occasionally. In a good way. I got to see Whisper of the Heart and Spirited Away on a big screen through the Studio Ghibli repertory series they were doing at the Brattle; I maybe cried at both of them. NO SHAME.
Also? I know it makes me an ass to go "wah, I'm old" when I just turned 28, but... man.
scriblix's son is turning five soon! My sister is turning 21 and I'm making plans to take her out drinking! A friend's baby brother got engaged! My ten-year high school reunion is this fall! WHO LET ME PRETEND TO BE AN ADULT? I spent half an hour debating whether to buy all the Halloween stuff at Target! I still spend most of my free time writing fanfic! WHO LET ME RENT AN APARTMENT AND PAY BILLS?
Speaking of fandom, reveals finally went up for
rarepairfest, so I can link to that!
in case you shake apart and want a brand new start, Legend of Korra, Korra/Asami. Speakeasies! Sneaking out after curfew! Dancing! This was hard to write but I think it turned out well. (And I still have to write my Avatar Ladyfest fic. Whoops.)
OH AND I also finished part one of "John Blake is Bad at Feelings": Like a second skeleton. In which Babs is the greatest and John is kind of a failboat and there's a lot of wangst and I utterly fail at writing action scenes. Part two is in the works.
blah. I think it's time for a nap, because I ate way too much delicious breakfast food and it is Saturday and I have no plans. LIFE IS PRETTY GREAT.

Oh man, I freaked out so much when my little sister turned 25 and then when she BOUGHT A HOUSE. YOU USED TO WIPE YOUR BOOGERS ON THE WALL OF OUR BEDROOM WHO SAID YOU COULD OWN A HOUSE???

My brother is 25 but this freaks me out less because I don't remember life before him? Whereas my sister is enough younger that I distinctly remember her being A BABY.

More seriously, there is never a time when you will feel like you are actually grown up, and actually have it all together. I thought there would be, but there totally isn't. It's more like realizing one day, which for me was about two years ago, that you are in fact no longer a young adult, but a real one, and you have managed for over a decade to not kill yourself in traffic or by starvation.
Then you realize that ALL THIS TIME all those other adults have TOTALLY BEEN WINGING IT and you feel kind of cheated, but it's okay. It is the nature of the world.
I think we had that same Ghibli festival at my artsy theatre, is it the one called Castles in the Sky? I saw Totoro at mine and ALSO CRIED, LIKE FIVE TIMES.

Totally going back to Target for more decorations. They have some artsy Victorian-style crap that is precisely up my alley.
It was! I found out about it too late to see Totoro, alas, BUT IT WAS STILL GREAT.
