YULETIDE RECS, PART DEUX.

Chiaroscuro, Hamlet - Eldritch horrors were just what this play needed, amirite? Also I am always a sucker for an Ophelia viewpoint.

Begin Again, Hanna - Fairytales and aftermaths and glimpses of the in-betweens. Perfect.

I Am and So Are You, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Trillian/Zaphod - Adams pastiche is hard, but I think this nails it. It also gives us a look at Trillian, who deserves an entire trilogy-with-five-books of her own.

Jane Eyre Has a Posse, Jane Austen's Fight Club. HILARAMAZING.

The Heirs of English Magic, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell - A delightful and thoughtful wrapping-up of the many loose ends that remained at the end of the book. Some of it feels a bit pat and anachronistic but overall I enjoyed reading this, especially the letters.

The Blog of Levi Who Is Called Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, Lamb, Biff/Maggie - Helpfully, the gift of tongues does in fact cover 1337speak and LOLcat. It does not cover whatever language those commenters on Youtube are speaking though.

As I Always Say, Magic School Bus/Doctor Who/Mary Poppins - A lot of people like to joke that Ms. Frizzle is a Time Lady, but that doesn't necessarily mean fun and adventure.

The River Serpent, Mulan. Alternate-universe spookiness.

You get a lifetime, Mysterious Skin. Wendy is always going to worry about Neil, even if there's no point to it. I just got punched in the heart, which is how I felt watching the film.

Returning to the Deep, Pan's Labyrinth - Mercedes, afterwards. Lyrical and chilling.

Present, Parks and Recreation, Ben/Leslie - OH MY GOD THIS IS PERFECT. Ann tries to plan Leslie's baby shower. Ben freaks out about impending fatherhood. Leslie is a force of nature as usual.

What to Expect When You're Expecting, Parks and Recreation - April and Andy are going to have a baby. I snorted really loudly at three separate parts of this fic.

Just a little Two-Step, Princess and the Frog - A few sweet slices between the bayou wedding and the big fancy royal wedding we see for two seconds in the film. Adorbz.

Fourteen and Impossible, The Sound of Music - Baroness Elsa Schrader would not have been a good mother, but this brief look at her during an unexpected visit from Friedrich shows that she's still a good person.

The Morning Light, The Station Agent - Post-film, really sweet and lovely and getting the tone of the movie absolutely right.

The Doves and the Ravens, Total Eclipse of the Heart - The music video makes much more sense if it's broken programming in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, right? Right.

How Close, Warrior. Apparently I just want all the post-movie fic about Tommy and him trying to make a life out of the scorched earth he's stuck with by the end of the film. This resists the temptation to make everything sunshine and roses, because it wouldn't be, not with his history and his issues, but it's still hopeful for all that. The pairing was not one I expected but the author made me believe it, so kudos for that too.
